The New Saints FC Foundation has strengthened its community mental health support after its health and wellbeing lead, Eogan Jones, earned Orange Button certification. Jones completed specialist suicide prevention training to become a visible point of contact for anyone struggling.

He said the scheme provides a clear way to identify individuals trained and willing to offer support. "Joining the Orange Button scheme has given me the tools and confidence to have open conversations about suicide and mental health," Jones stated. He hopes his involvement will help reduce stigma and encourage people to seek help.

A visible symbol of support

The Orange Button equips participants to listen without judgment and signpost individuals to further support. Jones and the foundation team are based at The Centre Spot on Oak Street in Oswestry, a community hub offering a wide range of activities for children and adults. "I hope that by wearing the button I can help make support more visible and encourage others to get involved too," he added.

This community initiative comes as the first-team squad continues its strong form on the pitch. The New Saints sit top of the Premier League with 41 points from 15 games, holding a six-point lead. Their recent fixtures show an unbeaten run of four wins and a draw, including a 9-0 victory over Ammanford AFC last month. The team's record this season is formidable, with 53 goals scored and only six conceded. Their recent form, comprising four wins and a draw, was extended by a goalless draw with GAP Connah S Quay FC on Saturday 31 October. The run also includes a 2-1 win at Airbus UK, a 6-1 victory at Holywell, a 9-0 win over Cambrian & Clydach, and a 3-1 win at Trefelin.

The club now prepares to host Briton Ferry at Park Hall on Friday, 13 November. Briton Ferry currently sit 12th in the table. The team will look to continue their unbeaten streak, which stands at five games, in that fixture.
