A new study has ranked The New Saints' Park Hall stadium as one of the less accessible grounds in the Cymru Premier for fans travelling by train. The study measured the walking distance from the nearest operational railway station to every top-flight ground in Wales for the 2026/27 season.
This analysis comes as The New Saints sit second in the Premier League table with 10 points from four games. Their recent form reads WWWD, and they have yet to concede a goal this season, scoring eight for a +8 goal difference. They trail leaders Barry Town by just two points, setting up a tight title race.
The New Saints' home, Park Hall in Oswestry, is situated just across the border in England. The nearest operational railway station is Gobowen, which lies roughly three kilometres or 1.9 miles from the stadium. The railway line does not currently extend into Oswestry itself, making the journey from station to stadium a significant walk for supporters relying on public transport.
This places Park Hall towards the less convenient end of the scale compared to some rivals. For example, Flint Town United's Cae-y-Castell ground, which is also hosting Connah's Quay Nomads this season, is a mere five-minute walk from Flint station. Briton Ferry Llansawel's Old Road is similarly close, just 0.3km from its local station.
The study identified several clubs with exceptionally good rail links. At the top of the convenience table is Flint Town United, with their Cae-y-Castell ground just 0.4 miles from Flint railway station. Llandudno's Maesdu Park is also well-served, being roughly half a mile or a ten-minute walk from Llandudno station.
Other clubs offering relatively straightforward rail access include Ammanford, whose Recreation Ground is an 11-minute walk from the station, and Haverfordwest County, with a 14-minute walk from Haverfordwest station to Bridge Meadow.
For many fans, the journey involves a longer walk from the station. Barry Town United's Jenner Park is around 1.1km from Barry Docks station. Cardiff Met's Cyncoed Campus requires a 25-minute walk from either Heath High Level or Heath Low Level stations.
Some of the longest walks are required for supporters of Trefelin, whose Ynys Park is a 30-minute walk from Port Talbot Parkway, and Cambrian United, whose M&P Group 3G ground in Clydach Vale is a 29-minute walk from Tonypandy station. Colwyn Bay's Llanelian Road is around a mile and a half from Colwyn Bay station.
While the rail link to Park Hall is not ideal, The New Saints' on-field performance has been impeccable so far. Their next challenge is a home fixture against GAP Connah S Quay FC on October 31st. The club's strong defensive record and league position show they are a formidable force at home, regardless of travel logistics. Maintaining this form will be key as they look to close the two-point gap to Barry Town at the top of the table.
